 The Coach...The Man We HonourVladimir "Walter" Kostric and his wife Vida arrived in
Canada from Yugoslavia in 1968. He had graduated as a top student from the University of
Physical Education in Zagreb. In Zagreb, Walter was an assistant professor and coached the
pole vault, horizontal jumps and multi-events. His knowledge of track and field was
exceptional.
Walter was hired as a physical education teacher at Woburn
in 1969 and to say he made and immediate impact on track and field in Scarborough and
Toronto is an understatement. (More on this story) |

 Canadian
athletes and their representative clubs entered in the Walter Kostric Memorial Track &
Field Classic events must be registered with a Branch of Athletics Canada (i.e. Ontario
Track & Field Association) in the year of the competition. Foreign athletes will not
be allowed to compete unless cleared by Athletics Canada Director of Technical Services.The meet organizer will not accept entries from non-registered
athletes.
The meet organizer will not accept entries from
non-registered clubs.
Athletes residing in Ontario but representing a club from
outside the province must be registered with their association and must be entered by
their respective clubs.
All athletes on a relay team must be members of the same
club and the club affiliated with the OTFA, Athletics Canada or USATF. |

 The
Organizing Committee will host a reception for all athletes, coaches and officials at the
Northwood Community Centre located at 15 Clubhouse Court starting at 7:00 pm. For

Kostric Memorial Scholarship Award: |
The Walter Kostric Memorial
Scholarship is a $500 per year scholarship, established to honour the memory of
Walter "Vladimir" Kostric (1935-2000).
